You know that a Call option gives you the right to buy an asset. If the price of the asset goes above your locked-in target (the Strike Price), your "Click Ticket" becomes valuable.
But why do we have a separate lesson for calculating profits on Crypto-Backed Options?
Because on ClickOptions, your security deposit (collateral) and your final payout are both handled entirely in cryptocurrency. When your option expires, we first calculate how many dollars your ticket is worth. Then, we convert those dollars back into Bitcoin (BTC) to pay you. Since the fee you paid upfront (the Premium) was also in BTC, we must subtract that to find your true profit.
As markets experience massive volatility—like today’s $10 billion options expiry event sending ripples through the ecosystem—knowing exactly how your payouts work is what separates gamblers from smart traders.
The Simple Process (Step-by-Step)
Let's look at a winning trade. Imagine Bitcoin is currently at $11,000, but you expect it to surge.
- The Setup: You buy a Bitcoin Call option with a Strike Price of $12,000.
- The Cost: You pay a Premium of 0.05 BTC.
- The Result: At expiration, Bitcoin has skyrocketed to $15,000!
Here is how ClickOptions calculates your payout:
- Calculate the USD Value: Subtract your locked-in Strike Price from the new Bitcoin price. ($15,000 - $12,000 = $3,000). Your ticket is worth $3,000.
- Convert to Bitcoin: Divide that $3,000 by the new price of Bitcoin ($15,000). ($3,000 / $15,000 = 0.2 BTC).
- Subtract Your Upfront Fee: Take your 0.2 BTC payout and subtract the 0.05 BTC Premium you paid at the start.
Your True Profit: 0.15 BTC.
Real-World Scenarios
Scenario A: The Breakeven Trap (The Buyer)
- The Trade: You buy a Call with a $15,000 Strike Price for a Premium of 0.075 BTC.
- The Result: Bitcoin rises to $16,000.
- The Math:
(16000 - 15000) / 16000 - 0.075 = 0.0625 - 0.075 = -0.0125 BTC. - The Lesson: Even though the price went up, it didn't go up enough to cover your expensive Premium fee. You took a tiny loss of 0.0125 BTC. You always need the price to clear your breakeven point!
Scenario B: The Wrong Direction (The Buyer)
- The Trade: You buy a Call with a $10,000 Strike Price for a Premium of 0.08 BTC.
- The Result: Bitcoin crashes to $5,000.
- The Lesson: Because the price fell below your Strike Price, your option expires worthless. But remember the beauty of the "Click Ticket"? You are never forced to buy the crashed asset. Your maximum loss is simply the 0.08 BTC Premium you paid upfront.
Scenario C: Keeping the Fee (The Seller)
- The Trade: You sell a Call with an $11,000 Strike Price and collect a 0.09 BTC Premium upfront from the buyer.
- The Result: Bitcoin drops to $10,400.
- The Lesson: The buyer's ticket is worthless because the price dropped. As the seller, you get to keep the entire 0.09 BTC Premium as pure profit.
