Leveling Up: Trading with Crypto as Your "Security Deposit"

Hopefully, you are getting the hang of how a basic option—your "Click Ticket"—works. You pay a small fee today for the right to buy something at a locked-in price later.

In this section, we are going to look at Crypto-Backed Options.

These work almost exactly the same as the regular options you've learned about. If you buy a Bitcoin Call option, you are buying the right to buy Bitcoin. Simple! But when you trade these on ClickOptions, there is one small but important difference you need to know about.

Your Deposit is in Crypto, Not Dollars

Normally, when you trade traditional stocks, you use regular cash (like US Dollars) to fund your account and hold your trades. This money acts as your "collateral"—think of it like a security deposit.

With Crypto-Backed Options, you use the cryptocurrency itself as your security deposit. This means your ClickOptions account balance will be held in Bitcoin (or Ethereum), and any money you make or lose on the trade will be paid out to you in that exact same cryptocurrency.

Why does this matter?

  • The "Curved" Payoff: Imagine you win a trade and make a profit. Because your profit is paid to you in Bitcoin—and the price of Bitcoin is always moving up and down—your total profit measured in regular US dollars won't be a perfectly straight line. It creates a "curve." (Don't worry about the math right now; we will show you pictures of how this works in the next section!)
  • New Breakeven Points: Because your security deposit is in Bitcoin, calculating exactly where your trade breaks even (makes zero dollars, but loses zero dollars) is slightly different.
  • You Are Protected: The European Union has strict new rules called MiCA that officially protect retail investors starting in 2026. Because ClickOptions follows these rules, your crypto "security deposit" is kept completely segregated and safe from the platform's own funds.

The Two Labels You Need to Know

Whenever you look at a crypto trade, you will see two labels. Here is the beginner translation:

  1. The Base Currency (The Asset): This is the actual item you are trading and using as your security deposit (Example: Bitcoin).
  2. The Quote Currency (The Price Tag): This is the currency used to tell you how much the asset costs (Example: US Dollars).

It’s that easy! The "Quote" just tells you how many dollars you need to buy one Bitcoin.

In Section 4, we will look at some simple examples of how to calculate your risk when your security deposit is in Bitcoin. Then, we will jump into the ClickOptions platform to show you exactly where to click to make your first trade.
